Why So Many Law Students Do Not Want to Learn How to Write a Speech
Why So Many Law Students Do Not Want to Learn How to Write a SpeechWhen I started teaching, I discovered that writing a speech is an often-overlooked and often-inevitable part of the law student's education. It seems that all students want to do is to learn the material and pass the course, but they do not always feel the need to learn how to make a speech.Although many law students make use of law books and Internet materials, a significant number of them would like to make their own speeches for the occasion. A good number of these students tend to have small audiences; it is the law school graduation or any other important social event. For these students, it is imperative that they learn how to write a speech. But what are the reasons why so many law students do not feel the need to learn how to write a speech? There are many reasons. One reason is the feeling that the task is too impersonal. As I mentioned, a large number of law students make use of law books, e-courses and semin ars to get the information about a case, but there are people who want to create their own speech; they don't want to rely on anybody else to provide the information. The second reason why a law student does not want to learn how to write a speech is that they think that such a subject is somehow too abstract or out of reach. The truth is that it is quite easy to make a speech; in fact, there are people who make speeches on a daily basis! In this regard, it is important that a law student learns the art of storytelling. Stories have power, and when a law student is able to communicate what is going on in the story, they make a convincing speech.Another reason why a law student does not want to learn how to write a speech is because they feel that it is boring and repetitive. However, to make a speech engaging, you must be able to weave in stories, metaphors and anecdotes. This is one of the things that a law student should learn first. An important reason why a law student does not wa nt to learn how to write a speech is that they feel that the process is not practical. In reality, you can practice these skills in your spare time. The best way to learn how to write a speech is to write a speech and record it at home. After listening to the speech, practice talking over it, so that you can be confident that you know the content. The third reason why a law student does not want to learn how to write a speech is that they feel that it is not challenging. On the contrary, a speech is never boring; only a few speakers will be affected by the speech. To write a speech, a law student will need to know the content well, as it will require a lot of research and analysis.A law student will be very proud of themselves if they can write a speech on the spot, even though this might not be possible in real life. If they can pull off a great speech with enough effort, then they will be very happy.
